I Am Not A Hero – I Just Got My Hair Cut – You Can, Too~!

It’s hard enough for adults to go around with no hair, but imagine how a child must feel? First, to be sick at all, but on top of it to have no hair? This is where “Wigs For Kids” comes in…

You can donate 10 inches or more of your hair or give money. There is even a form to mail in the hair. Whichever you choose to do will brighten a child’s life as they recover from unthinkable illness. It takes about 12 ponytails to make each wig.

This charity is local to me:

hair4kids.org

Hair4Kids.org

Wigs4Kids.org

Wigs4Kids.org

If you want to stay local, you can ask your hair stylist if there is a similar program in your area – I’m sure there is~!

I would also like to THANK SO MUCH, @Jason__Ramsey of WigSuperStore.com who donated wigs to my sister in law who was fighting breast cancer and has since been given a clean bill of health~! I can tell you that those wigs went a LONG WAY toward her recovery~!! Please “like” them on Facebook~!

The great thing about donating hair is that it grows back~!

Zumba Fitness Instructor by night, dental assistant by day. Living life to the fullest w/ my 3 boys.

It’s the kind of thing that might be in a movie; a beautiful, single mother struggling to keep her home at Christmas time with her three young boys in tow. One of her sons just turned 4 years old a couple of weeks ago. She has literally thousands of friends online who can create a happy ending to the story. She has about one week to save her home. [from Original post]

Were you one of the friends who made a difference?

(It’s not too late to help, if not)

This movie has a HAPPY ENDING~!!

Blanca was able to save her home with YOUR help and the help of her family and Zumba Divas~!

And we did this BEFORE the “Man with the Golden Voice” was discovered~!

Gratitude

[Gratitude Letter from Blanca]

To all my awesome friends on Twitter and Facebook,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me and my monkeys. Our house was in foreclosure status and because of your generosity, I was able to to save the house.
John Weatherly and Anita Nelson were my angels. They both spread word of our need and more angels came to the rescue.
Those that know me well, know that I am not a materialistic person. If it was just me, I would not have cared about the house…..but this house is a home to my three monkeys and I couldn’t bare to hurt them.
Life sometimes gives us challenges and I am going through some right now…..
I believe that things happen for a reason and/or to teach us a lesson….I was becoming frustrated as to what that lesson was for me. I have two jobs with three kids to take care of and no matter how hard I tried to get ahead it seemed something always came in the way.
I like many people in my situation felt alone…I was also too stubborn to tell anybody, I am not used to asking for help (I am always the one helping) I am too independent…
Once my friend John and Anita found out what was happening word spread and I finally learned my lesson………
Lesson: I am NOT alone, I have wonderful friends all over the world. I received blessings totaling approximately $700 from my friends online. My brother and my friend let me borrow the rest.
I appreciate your prayers and your help and I want you to know that I am here for you, just like you have been there for me.
I thank you for being part of my life lesson, for letting me know I am loved and not alone.

My monkeys and I thank you …..I am truly blessed to have your friendship

Love ALWAYS,  Blanca

______________________________________________

I apologize for not posting this sooner – Blanca DID get it to me and I have been happily swamped~! I would like to also thank everyone deeply for helping as I knew you would~! And I would like to thank Blanca for being so brave, candid, and honest to let us help her~! I think it is far more difficult to accept help than to give it. Blanca, you are a gracious and wonderful woman. Indeed, you have many friends who love you around the world~! We wish you many decades of love and happiness in your home with your monkeys =)

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has helped, will help, is helping or is thinking about helping~!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO WONDERFUL FRIENDS~!!!

Please Don’t Wait Until She’s Homeless to Help Her

Zumba Fitness Instructor by night, dental assistant by day. Living life to the fullest w/ my 3 boys.

It’s the kind of thing that might be in a movie; a beautiful, single mother struggling to keep her home at Christmas time with her three young boys in tow. One of her sons just turned 4 years old a couple of weeks ago. She has literally thousands of friends online who can create a happy ending to the story. She has about one week to save her home.

The question is… will you be one of the friends who make a difference?

If you are reading this, you have probably donated $5 or $10 to Haiti or to the homeless in another charity drive. Most of my friends are so wonderfully giving and kind-hearted. Many of us are fallen on hard times ourselves, so perhaps can help with a blog post, email, Facebook post, a tweet – even retweeting this post would be a help.

The thing is… she doesn’t really need THAT much money. Normally when we unite for a cause, we are trying to raise at least a million dollars. We need to just raise $1500 to give her one more month to straighten around her situation. It would be nice to raise more than that, of course.

This is not the typical charity drive. This is about someone you know. Someone you know who is about to be homeless. Homeless with children! There is no foundation behind this effort. The money will be sent via PayPal from you directly to

Video removed at request of author

[Gratitude Video from Blanca]

Please keep in mind that PayPal takes a percentage, so if you would give $5, perhaps make it $6, and so on.

*Update* Mashable recently did a post introducing Dwolla similar to PayPal , but their service is just 25 cents per transaction~! It can also be used for businesses, so I have signed up and hope everyone else does, too! The beauty thing about Dwolla is that it lets you send or receive money using just a Twitter or Facebook ID – and did I mention they charge just 25 cents per transaction?!

I would like to thank John Weatherly for sending a Facebook message to us letting us know~! We would never even know if he didn’t send out an incredibly generous Facebook message with Blanca’s email address and the idea to PayPal cash to her in this, her moment of need.

I realize this is very short notice and I apologize for that, but I know you can move mountains to help others! I have seen you do it before and know how much greater the effect would be for someone you personally know. So please, Let’s help Blanca before she is homeless and has an agency assisting her to find simple shelter. We can be proactive. We can prevent this from happening at all. We can be the change we want to see!

Let’s make her feel like she’s in THIS movie~!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has helped, will help, is helping or is thinking about helping~!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS~!!!

My Online Neighbors ROCK~! Thank you, @Jason__Ramsey @WigSuperStore

Lovely Christmas card~!

Lovely Christmas card~!

Every so often I hear someone ask what has happened to the “good ole days” when people used to help their neighbors, etc. I submit to you that the neighborhood HAS changed – now it’s ONLINE for many of us~!

A decade ago, @WigSuperStore and its proprietor @Jason__Ramsey may have been brick and mortar neighbors for a @ModelSupplies store. Now we are virtual neighbors, but that doesn’t mean we can’t exchange the same kinds of friendship that we would if we saw each other in person every day. In fact, maybe this is more conducive to neighborly friendships? There are no fights over noise, property lines or signage, only the sweet presence of happy tweets~!

Look at the fabulocity @Jason__Ramsey and his lovely family sent me~!

The cookies came in SUCH an adorable tin, too~!! And did I say YUMMY~!!

Traditional Tangerines~!!!

Traditional Tangerines~!!!

Some people think the pine tree smells like Christmas, but I’m more of a traditional girl – it’s always been citrus fruits for me~! My Mom used to stuff our stockings with oranges, tangerines and grapefruits – all of which I adore~! What a beautiful reminder of years past!~

So to you and your family, Jason and Leigh Anne, I can only say, ‘Merry Christmas~! And Happy New Year, Neighbors~!” Here is wishing you and @WigSuperStore an ever more successful, bountiful and beautiful 2011~!! Your gift is enjoyable – and delicious~!!

THANK YOU~!!

There can be no greater teacher for eBay than Danna Crawford aka @PowerSellingMom of PowerSellingMom.com. In 2008, Danna was one of  eight(?) people recognized for excellence by Giving Works, eBay’s charity arm. It is a small wonder to me that she isn’t recognized every year for Giving Works!

Danna taught me how to give to charities even when I did not have enough money for my own day to day living. I expressed to her that I didn’t think I could help, though I really wanted to be involved in philanthropy. She laughed and said, “you don’t need money to help charities!” and went on to explain how I could donate part or all of a sale to a chosen organization using eBay Giving Works. She let me know that as an added benefit, it would boost my sales to have listings devoted to charity. She also told me that I would be a PowerSeller soon. And I thought, “yeah, I wish!”

All of these things and more have come to pass! I have been able to help numerous charities not only with small donations, but also in spreading the word about their cause. In order for a charity to get donations, people must have heard of them. The more people who hear about a charity, the better it will do.

I also became a PowerSeller right on schedule with the timing Danna pointed out. My new goals are directed toward reaching the next level and expanding. These are all things I could barely conceive before meeting Danna. Giving to charity when you have no money is nothing short of a miracle. It boosts you up, gives you wings, makes you feel closer to God. It is a religious experience.

These are not the ONLY reasons you should learn eBay from Danna, but they are pretty good ones, aren’t they?

P.S. Also, I now support my household~! If you have any doubt, follow the CHRISTMAS TREE~!!! All the Virtual Online Learning peeps have made a tree for Danna with GIFTS & CARDS~!!

Top 3 Scents That Drive Your Man Wild~!

Cinnamon & vanilla beans

Cinnamon & vanilla beans

Good thing you’re reading this. You know the old adage, “if you don’t do it, someone else will!“.

The holiday season can be a magical one for you and your special someone. My husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve, and I will always remember him on bended knee in the lovely snow in front of the manger scene outside the church on the corner. It was freezing, so I said “yes” just to get back to the car~! (Just kidding!)

I’ve often wondered what inspired him to make his move on such a high stress holiday and I have decided he was swept away. But swept away by what? We were between family parties, so my guard was completely down. We were in travel mode. I did, however, have an assortment of scents on and surrounding my body. I was chewing cinnamon gum, my favorite, and had applied a vanilla scented lip balm, while my hand lotion was lavender scented. Now I find out that was the trifecta~! If you are not seeking a proposal, you may not want to use all three of these~!

1. Cinnamon ~ Cinnamon comes from the inner bark of evergreen trees in India and Asia (evergreen – see?). The spicy essential oil has been used as a perfume since biblical times and was a favorite of Cleopatra. Wearing cinnamon/vanilla blended scent increases the presence of pheromone-like substances and dramatically increases attraction.

2. Vanilla ~ Mmmm… Who doesn’t love the warm, sweet scent of vanilla? Yes, it reminds us of baking, but it goes further than that, doesn’t it? Realtors have long been known to light vanilla candles to make homes more appealing. There are entire product lines based upon this theory.

Studies conducted by neurologist Alan Hirsch have shown that the smell of vanilla arouses men more than any other scent.

3. Lavender ~ Lavender essential oil is helpful when you have a headache, so there goes that excuse~! It has remarkable healing qualities including speeding up the healing process for minor cuts and scrapes. It is an anti-bacterial as well as anti-viral and is well known to be able to rejuvenate cells faster. Maybe that’s why this scent turns on men? Perhaps they are naturally drawn to the healing potential. Turn on some Marvin Gaye and get out your Lavender products~!

Now you are armed with “make or break” information to drive your man wild~! You may even use this information to avoid intimacy, though, I don’t know who you are~!  Men, studies show that women are turned on by the scent of black licorice. I, personally, do not like black licorice all that much, but enjoy the very occasional “Good and Plenty”.  These are the scientific scents, but what are some of your favorite scents?

Hot Watches In Cool Colors~! Athletes’ Pick~!

*~Product Review for you~*

Esso Watches

Esso Watches

When Esso Watches sent me a couple of delightful, neon watches, I was tickled neon pink to receive them~! I really had no idea what health benefits they held. I had no clue they have been giving athletes the winning edge for decades. The material is reminiscent of the “jelly shoes” from the eighties, though they have something additional, something we are having trouble getting in our daily allowance from the earth these days: a negative charge. Not only do we now surround ourselves with electronics that bombard us with positive charges, a recent article talked about how the earth is now losing it’s negative charge which provides our balance.

Esso Watches

I love how Esso Watches come in these cool test tubes~!

The results show up in your golf game, soccer and tennis performance, and could very well be the difference between winning and losing. Now, you can just slip on a watch to gain the advantage~! Better balance was not the only benefit I saw when I tried them on, I also saw a difference in my vision. I experienced sharper edges, brighter colors and a feeling of clarity just from putting on this watch! They’re not just a cute fashion accessory – even though they are that, too~! They even come in black for those less enthusiastic about color. The band sizes run a little small, so I would suggest getting an adult size if you are not sure. They do also tell the time, so that’s a handy feature, though it takes a video for an adult to learn to set one ;-) They HAVE that video on their website~! I really have just been wearing them to feel better, since I have had balance problems in the past. Esso watches are AWESOME for people who suffer from balance problems.

Yes, Esso Watches actually tell time, too~!

Yes, Esso Watches actually tell time, too~!

I would call these a “must have” for any athlete and certainly a perfect gift for your children to help them look cool AND gain the competitive edge. Wouldn’t it be great if the one thing you were missing to win the game was a simple watch? EssoWatches.com <~ Not an affiliate link, though the watches were sent as a gift from @EssoWatches on Twitter. That did not influence my impression of the watches. DIY Skin Care Is More Than Just Saving Money

DIY via diyfashion.about.com

DIY

Recently,  I watched a documentary about DIY (Do It Yourself)  lifestyles and how the people made money at it, or didn’t, as the case may be. They were mostly hippie and punk type people with piercings and outlandish hairstyles. They all seemed to have an underlying rage against society, but what they were doing – themselves – is exactly what I am doing and in the same sort of spirit. It occurred to me that I don’t look like a DIY person, have that edge or anger, but my philosophy is still the same. I express myself by formulating or creating skin care products. And it’s not just about money.

It’s about self expression. It’s about knowing what you put on your skin is pure. It’s about knowing first hand the percentage of a certain ingredient, because you made the potion yourself. Some people may never think twice about this and that’s ok, but for some of us, skin care is almost an alternative sport. We like to push the percentages of ingredients past the manufacturer’s recommendations to see if we can achieve even greater results in even less time than the pre-fabbed jars would ever offer. We like to skip the oil by-products and use only things that are good for our skin, let it breathe and nourish it.

Can it get dangerous? Pushing the limits, adding extra DMAE, Matrixyl, Argireline, Vitamin C, Vitamin A/Retinol? Sure, we risk irritation, but we ultimately know a good rinse will bail us out. The real sure thing is that if a corporation can sell us something that makes promises and does not harm us, they can get away with not helping us, too. They don’t have to do anything except coat our skin in grease and their promise is fulfilled. Isn’t your skin worth more than that? Mine is. That is where the DIY lifestyle and attitude comes in. In certain ways as a rebellion against corporate rule, but in most ways, just pushing the envelope and exploring further.

Where do I get off calling formulating an art? Cooking is an art. We also have the challenge of making packaging appealing for our unique offerings. While I have gone the plain packaging route in the past, I am now aware that this is a bottle or jar that will live in someone else’s home for months. It should therefore be pleasing to look at. It should also be a chameleon and blend in, looking beautiful, in a variety of spaces. It should be cool. I will still offer the plain packaging for those who cannot afford the fancy stuff, but I look forward to unveiling some new designs in the near future and hope you will love the new products!

At the same time, I challenge you to create your own danger zone and push your skin care into the sports level. I recently made a custom creme for a customer and myself that made my face feel like it was jogging and getting a massage at the same time~! This was a fantastic breakthrough product and it smoothed fine lines within two days. The percentages were more than maxed out on a couple of the ingredients, DMAE and Matrixyl. The sheer joy hearing how fantastic it was and that I should also back off on the cocoa butter next batch was exhilarating~! I am sure there are competitions somewhere for this. If there aren’t, perhaps I will start them! Is anyone interested in doing a skin care triathalon? And I am seriously considering a punk DIY makeover ;-)

Glam vs Natural? Which is Better? Voice your opinion!

Glam vs Natural

Glam vs Natural

When I was younger, I wanted everything to be natural. I wanted to look natural, use natural products, eat natural foods. I scorned heavy makeup, even when it was part of being onstage. Makeup was the first thing to come off after the costume. Oh, how I hated the feel of heavy makeup on my skin. Greasepaint. I am not alone in this bizarre rejection of the very fundamental tool of my own trade. There is a race to the makeup remover after almost every show I have ever done! I think with good reason, too, since greasepaint can suffocate your skin. I view it as a necessary evil. Without the heavy stage makeup, faces become flat, pancake-like ovals dancing on the stage without definition or expression. It is an absolute must. Most people who know me, know I lean toward the natural look for every day, preferring to look like a hippie over a diva.

But here’s something they may not know about me: I’ve always wanted to be every day Glam~!

Yes, it’s true. I am a natural girl who longs to don false eyelashes, red lipstick and test different wigs and hair extensions. How I would love to be more expressive on a daily basis. And it’s not like I couldn’t. I certainly have all of the equipment in cases and cases of makeup from days gone by that I should have thrown out years ago. What makes a woman go through all of that every day? Who wakes up motivated to wear false eyelashes? I wore them one day to my job at the newspaper during a particularly boring time of my life, just to perk up my day, and to my horror, a co-worker called attention to my suddenly sprouted eye appendages! I was mortified. After all, here I was in my forties, carrying all this extra weight, still trying to feel sexy on the job. I never wore them again. I let her get to me.

Now I feel ridiculous for letting someone make me feel funny about trying a new look. If I want to go from natural girl to glam overnight, it’s my business, isn’t it? Sure, it may draw unwanted attention or comments, but I could work through that to get to the good feelings. Trying new things will always keep you younger. Of course, as we age, heavy makeup can tend to make us look older. There are shades of lipstick that will make you look 101 years old, beware! But the natural look needs a little help, too, at the risk of leaving features undefined and washed out. When we were young, Mom always said “a little goes a long way”. As we get ready for holiday parties, what is the best advice for your age now? What is the best advice after forty? What are some of your favorite looks? Any wild experiences with changing your look? And…

Which is better? Glam or natural? Post your opinion as a comment!

Susan Boyle Gets A Frog In Her Throat On The View [Video]

Today, Susan Boyle broke the cardinal rule of show business: “The Show Must Go On”. But I’m not mad at her. She had a “frog” in her throat, a condition which must be guarded against before it occurs because there is little one can do during. Usually, you would clear your throat, but Susan did the classic, “Can we start again” routine reminiscent of ice skater and thug employer, Tonya Harding. There was no time to start over, of course, she was on The View. Luckily, Whoopi and Sherry came quickly to her rescue, wading through the thick, lovely fog effects, making excuses and keeping the discomfort level to a minimum.

The funny thing about the discomfort level? Susan Boyle didn’t seem to mind at all! She stated very calmly that she had a frog in her throat and made really no apologies for it. The frog apparently would not dislodge and she didn’t make a second offer to start again. She has a very strong sense of self in that way. Admirable that she could be so oblivious to what a faux pas had been committed in favor of self preservation. Good for you, Susan Boyle~! Maybe pushing ourselves into poor health is not the best way to keep the show going in the long run. Maybe every now and then we all need to start again.
